Last week, the eyes of the art world were trained on Miami Beach for one of the biggest events on the art world calendar – Miami Art Week. The glitzy fixture sees new and established artists from around the world congregate in the city to spread the word about their work and to schmooze the week away.

Our Creative Director, Lindsay, and Art Buyer, Helen, were in town to catch up with the artists that we currently work with, and to meet with new artists that we know will be a great fit for Enter Gallery.

In today’s blog, we’re revealing some of Helen and Lindsay’s highlights from the show... 

 

The Big Guns

Miami is a wonderful opportunity to see works by some of the most iconic artists of all time, and this year certainly didn’t disappoint...

Keith Haring once described his Radiant Baby (pictured here, top middle) as “the purest and most positive experience of human existence” and Lindsay and Helen felt the same witnessing the seminal pieces from Haring’s 1990 Icons series together side-by-side.

Without Blek Le Rat, who knows what street art would look like… the French artist was one of the first graffiti artists to stencil his work on the streets of Paris back in the early 1980’s, earning himself the moniker, ‘The Father of stencil graffiti’.

Blek Le Rat’s work has inspired everyone from Swoon and Logan Hicks to the UKs most renowned street artist, Banksy, who famously stated: "Every time I think I've painted something slightly original, I find out that Blek Le Rat has done it as well. Only twenty years earlier".

Lindsay and Helen were big fans of Andy Warhol’s 1986 Cowboys and Indians series and were delighted to see the set of 10 prints up close. It was particularly special as the series was one of the last collections Warhol produced before his death in 1987.

The collection depicts a fantasy of the American Wild West, mixing together real historical figures with mass media interpretations of the time period.

As part of Louis Vuitton’s contribution to Miami Art Basel, the fashion house curated an ensemble of their most renowned collaborations with artists. This included two eerily realistic wax works of Yayoi Kusama created by the artist herself, and a panda sculpture by Takashi Murakami displayed atop a vintage Louis Vuitton trunk.

Enter Gallery Favourites

It's always a joy to see the work of artists whose work we have at Enter Gallery out in the world. Here were some of Lindsay and Helen's favourite sightings...

Fresh from the launch of her Abeille series of original bees, and her new longhorn pieces with Enter Gallery at our London Pop-Up in November, Elizabeth Waggett was in Miami sharing this beautiful work of a tiger. 

 

Kai and Sunny were also in Miami to launch their global collaboration with Tiffany & Co. To shout about it to the world they painted this mesmerising mural on the Buick Building at the entrance to the Miami Design District. 

 

The duo had a jam-packed schedule for their time in Florida. They were also showing work at their Wavy Days - Mini Solo show, for which they produced a number of new works, including this Bright Wave - Circle Painting.

Explore our collection of works by David Shrigley 

 

Apparently Brighton-based artist, David Shrigley, has produced more than 1,000 artworks since the start of the pandemic. A selection of these always hilarious pieces were on display in Miami, providing art lovers with a lovely bit of levity as the strolled around the Fair. 

 

 

Legendary street artist, Obey aka Shepard Fairey, was in town painting a new mural, The Future Starts Now at the infamous Wynwood Walls - Miami's original street art museum. The piece is a sequel to the mural Fairey painted there 10 years ago. 

The Future Starts Now pays homage to a whole host of inspirational folk, including Frida Kahlo, Nelson Mandela, Keith Haring and Wynwood Walls creator, Tony Goldman.
